May 2018: The Faroe Islands is one of those special places on Earth that is just too good to be true. It has the green lush scenery of Ireland but the desolation of Iceland. It is technically a territory of Denmark and is closer to the Arctic than Europe. The people are descended from Viking settlers and even speak a language that still has more in common with the Vikings than modern day Denmark. To explore the Faroe Islands, my friend Frank and I arrived via Iceland and rented a car with a plan to camp for 4 days. This is the itinerary for our trip.

Day 1
Dep Reykavik domestic airport @0920am Atlantic airways and arrive 1140am FAE
Pickup rental car at Miðvágur 
Visit Gasadular Falls
Hike Leitisvatn(hike along lake), on return hike hike the most easterly trail to climb ridge overlooking lake an ocean to see lake spilling over into the ocean.
Camp Giljanes

Day 2
Drive to Kalsoy Island, car ferry across
Hike to Kallur lighthouse
Return via car ferry back and drive to Torshavn, explore old town
Homestay

Day 3
Drive to fishing village,Flesjarnar explore island, climb sea cliffs at Eidiskollur near village, Eioi.
Visit abandoned village of Saksun, Camp Giljanes

Day 4
Hike to Drangarnir Arch, Depart FAE 355pm arrive RKV420pm Atlantic
